TENNESSEE VALLEY AUTHORITY (TVA)

The Tennessee Valley Authority was created in May of 1933

PURPOSE OF TVA

• Created to help people in the Tennessee valley that were affected by and during the Depression
• Provided navigation, flood control, and electricity generation.
• Created dams
• Helped to replant forests

WHO IT AFFECTED

• Benefited the people of the Tennessee Valley.
• Also serves about 80,000 square miles.
• Produces electricity for 9 million people in 7 states.
• Also employs over 11,500 people

SUCCESS

• Remained working for 82 years.
• Gives power to 7 states and 99.7% of Tennessee.
• Has built multiple dams.
• Helped to replant many forests.
• Taught better farming methods to farmers.

JOBS TODAY

• The organization is still around today.
• Largest power company.
• Protects water and controls flooding
• Some of the same jobs that it had when it was created
