  • Ruler: Citizens through elected officials
  • Basis of Rule:Citizenship majority rules
  • Example of Democracy: The United States

  • Ruler: A ruling family headed by King,or Queen, or emperor, or sultan holds political power
  • Basis of Rule: Rule is hereditary. May share power through constitution
  • Example of Monarchy: Great Britain

  • Ruler: Small group of citizens
  • Basis of Rule: Rule is based on wealth or privilege. The ruling group controls the military
  • Example of Oligarchy:China

  • Ruler: Single Individual
  • Basis of Rule: Ruler controls the military. Citizens have little power to change government
  • Example of Dictatorship: North Korea

  • Basis of Rule: Government owns all economic goods and services. Citizens have little power to change government

  • Examples of Personal- taking care of yourself, behaving in a good way, helping your family
  • Community Responsibilities-involve the government and your community
  • Examples of Community- obeying the law, paying taxes, serving on the jury, defending your country
