PROCEDURE

  • Put copper carbonate in the test tube
  • Heat in Bunsen burner for 1-2 minutes
  • Test gas with burning wood splint
  • Copper carbonate is a green powder

  • Powder turned black
  • Wood splint went out indicating Co2
  • Copper carbonate decomposed into CuO
  • Co2 and CuO are products

PROCEDURE

  • Hold Mg in bunsen Burner with tongs
  • Place in watch glass after burning
  • Mg started out shiny and silver
  • Burned in orange flames
  • Metal ended up charred and white
