CHRISTOPHER LATHAM SHOLES

  • In 1837, after completing school he moved to a new territory in Wisconsin
  • He was a newspaper publisher and a Wisconsin politician
  • Sholes didn't really invent the typewriter
  • Sholes passed away on February 17, 1890

THE TYPE WRITER WAS INVENTED IN 1714 BY HENRY MILL BUT IT WASN'T SUCCSESFUL

SHOLES CREATED THE FIRST SUCCESSFUL TYPE WRITER IN 1868

The purpose of the typewriter is... "A machine assumed that man may print his thoughts twice as fast as he can write them".

The typewriter revolutionized business. Clerical work defined women workers, and the typewriter became the main tool, or machine that women used in their "production".

Today we don't really use typewriters, we use computers. Computers do the same thing as what typewriters do. But computers have more interesting features you can do than just typing a paper. You can surf the Internet, play games, and etc.
