User Interface (UI) Design focuses on anticipating what users might need to do.

Ensuring that the interface has elements that are easy to access, understand, and use to facilitate those actions.

UI brings together concepts from interaction design, visual design, and information architecture.

What does a UI Designer Do?

• Writes code - CSS, HTML & JS
• Designs - knows Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign
• Understands Typography - for Web & Print
• Understands basic color theory & color theory for web
• Knows about layout and how to design for responsive sites

What else should a UI Designer know?

• How to do wireframes, mockups & write specs
• How to use market research to vet your designs
• Know web design best practices
• Understand the difference between websites & app's
• How to communicate clearly with a variety of people and personalities!

Do you need a degree?

Get some education to get your foot in the door! An AS Degree in Graphic Design is a great start. Most people that I know in the industry don't think it's necessary to get a Bachelors. It's best to get the hands on experience.

But.... With all that said... The More you know the more you can achieve so if you want that BA or the degree from Berkeley, then GO GET IT and change the world!
