UKRAINE CRISIS

HOW IT STARTED

• Ukraine had problems with with corruption for years
• The president wanted to establish closer relationships with the EU
• He refused to aign an agreement went the EU
• Instead he signed a treaty with Russia
• This sparked civil unrest in Ukraine which led to violent clashes

THE PROTESTORS

• There are thousands of protestors that are against the change
• The unrest in Ukraine started in Kiev, the capitol
• The protests eventually turned violent

PRESIDENT YANUKOVYCH

• He is Ukraine's president that signed the treaty with Russia
• He fled the country and was granted safety in Russia
• After he fled he was placed on Ukraine's most wanted list

HOW HAS IT ESCALATED?

• Russian military has started to gather on the border
• There have been heavy armored vehicles seen
• The forces could be ready to move into Ukraine with 12 hours notice

ROLE OF RUSSIA AND WEST

• Russia believes the revolution was the west's fault
• They think the US, Canada, Japan and South Korea payed for the revolution
• Russia refused to recognize Ukraine's interim government
• They took control of the Crimean peninsula

HOW WILL IT END?

• I think Russia is going to send troops into Ukraine
• They might try to talk it out but I don't think that will work
