ULURU WHAT IS IT?

  • Uluru is a giant sandstone monolith.
  • It is a sacred landmark to the aboriginals.
  • It is also the home to one of the 10 most beautiful sunsets in Australia.

Where is Uluru?
Uluru is located in the heart of the Northern Territory also know as the red centre. The closest large town is Alice Springs.

How big is Uluru?
Uluru is 348 metres, that’s nearly 4 statues of liberty on top of each other.

How old is Uluru?
Uluru’s age is estimated to be 600 million years old. That’s really old!

Who named Uluru?
Uluru was named Ayres rock by the Europeans in 1873 when William Gosse named it after sir Henry Ayres.

Interesting facts
37 people have died attempting to climb Uluru since 1950.

From Alice Springs there is a 430 kilometre drive to Uluru. That’s driving to Canberra there and back in a bus.

Next year people will not be allowed to climb Uluru! It’s not illegal now but it will be next year.

Many people visit Uluru but lots of them don’t follow the rules... example: people go off the paths and ruin the nature. They climb Uluru and graffiti it.
That is not cool.
