Early Life
Grant had 5 siblings and he was the second oldest. He lived on a farm in Ohio. He liked working with horses. He was a good student and very smart. By the age of 4, he was allowed to ride horses. At 10, he had great skills in farming. When he was 17, he went to West Point in New York. He got a record of the highest jump with a horse and held it for 24 years.

Career
In his career, Grant was a general in the Civil War and a president. Just when he became a general, he fought in the Mexican War. Right after the Mexican War he left the army to be a farmer. He was not a successful farmer, although as a child he was a hard worker. Grant was elected the 18th president the United States of America in 1869. When he became the president he changed the law so that there would not be anymore slavery.

Obstacles
Grant faced lots of dangers in his life. He was in the Civil War and he was almost stabbed by a saber but he shot the man before he could kill him. In the same war he almost got shot by a cannon but one of his teammates screamed "GET DOWN!" He did, but then the cannon ball shot through the air and hit the other man and killed him. In practising for a battle he was almost eaten by an alligator, but he shot it and it died in an instant.

Wars
Grant battled in the Mexican war and the civil war. He battled in the Mexican war first. He left the army after the Mexican war and then joined again and battled the civil war. They won the Mexican war and the civil war.

Death
When Ulysses Simpson Grant died he was 63. Why he died because he got throat cancer. He died after the year he got throat cancer.

Impact on USA
Grant changed the U.S by standing up for the unions and he battled in the Civil War. If the union didn't win the Civil War there would be way more slavery today. After they won the Civil war Grant was elected for president but he did not get the most votes. But then next year he won and became the president. After he became the president he instantly changed the law so there was no more slavery.
