Ulysses S. Grant was the eighteenth president of the United States. Born in 1822 in Ohio, Grant served 1 term in office. He died in 1885 of cancer in his throat.

Ulysses S. Grant grew up in Ohio as the son of a tanner. Against his will, he went to West Point. He is most well known as a general during the Civil War before becoming President.

Grant was elected president in 1869, 1 term after the Civil War. Although he was very honest, he accepted many gifts. He also let many businesses fail because of a scheme of two men, Jay Gould and James Fisk.

Julia Dent Grant was Grant's wife before, during, and after his presidency. Although she was very loyal, she entertained with extravagance. She did not do much to help the county.

Ulysses S. Grant died in 1885 of throat cancer. His family was bankrupt, and he was writing a book of memoirs in order to provide for his children. Upon finishing the last page, he died.

Ulysses S. Grant was a strong leader, if a little extravagant. Although he was slightly gullible, he was always honest. If I had lived during his presidency, he would have made an excellent president. President Lincoln refused to take him out of the line of duty during the Civil War, telling the press, "I can't spare this man- he fights."
