Understanding Children

Published on Oct 23, 2017

Reflecting on how students differ in the classroom.

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Understanding Children

Every child is unique.

Individualism should be encouraged.

All children have their own strengths and abilities to contribute to their future society. We cannot expect every child to be carbon copies of each other.

“... differentiated instruction enable educators to respond effectively to the strengths and needs of all students.”

Students have different:

  • Learning styles
  • Interests
  • Abilities
  • Personalities
It would not serve them well to teach them all in the same way and not respect their individuality.

Student Centered Teaching

By varying the learning tasks and products it helps touch the full spectrum of learning styles.
For example, having a variety of centres could encourage student learning, these centres can include things like painting, building, organizing and writing.

Recognizing students' strengths and abilities helps them fulfill their roles as a contributing member of society.
