PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Understanding Quality Management

Project Quality Mgmt is concerned with the policies, objectives, and responsibilities so that the project satisfies what is needed from it.

It is important to know that it addresses both the Project, and the Product

The basic approach to quality mgmt described in PMBOK is compatible with that of the International Organization of Standardization (ISO)

Quality Vs. Grade

Grade: is the product's level compared to other market products
Quality: is the degree this particular product meets its own requirements.

Quality Management Processes

  • Plan Quality
  • Perform Quality Assurance
  • Perform Quality Control

1. Plan Quality

Identify quality requirements and/or standards for the Project AND Product
Document how the project will demonstrate compliance

2. Perform Quality Assurance

The process of auditing the quality requirements and the results from quality control measurements
Ensuring appropriate qualilty standards and operational definitions are used

3. Perform Quality Control

monitoring and controlling the execution of quality activities
It is performed throughout the project

Important to know

Prevention = errors out of process
VS. Inspection = errors out of customer's hands

Attribute Sampling = Conform? Y/N
VS. Variable Sapling = Continuous scaling

Tolerances = range for acceptable results
VS. Control Limits = Indicating process is 'out of control'

In the next two slides are two good examples of tools used in quality control
1- Ishikawa Diagrams (Fishbone or Cause and Effect) : Illustrates how various factors might be linked to potential problems
2- Pareto Chart (80/20) : A type of Histogram ordered by frequency of occurance

Untitled Slide

Pareto Law: relatively small number of causes will typically produce a majority of the problems

Hope YOu benefited!
