Social Darwinism is the concept of "survival of the fittest" was applied to human society as occurring naturally. Historical Significance: This correlates with identity because it social darwinism depends on who ever can survive. Your identity was being portrayed on how you survived in society.
Ellis Island: A small island in New York Harbor. It served as a processing center for most immigrants arriving the E. Coast after 1892. Historical Significance: Movement of immigration to the US led to more diversity in America. Different races and ethnicities were brought into America.
Gospel of Wealth is the idea that wealthy Americans have a responsibility to donate money to further social progress and help the poor. Historical Significance: The theme of identity also correlates with the Gospel of Wealth. People of wealth should donate to those who are poor it defined good character and identity.
ICC had the power to enforce regulation of railroad rates under Roosevelt's presidency. Historical Significance correlates with freedom because railroads were getting out of control and regulation limited the power of certain individuals.
Theodore Roosevelt was the first president that was concerned about conceiving the environment. The historical significance correlates with freedom because he helped break trust giving the people better living standards which their individuality and freedom.
Populist Party was a political party that emerged to increase the political power of farmers and to work for legislation for farmers' interests. The historical significance correlates to class because farmers weren't high on the social ladder. The populist party allowed power to expand to farmers.
The 19th Amendment grated women's suffrage. The historical significance correlates to gender because women faced sexism from many males and fought for equality in the US.
Labor Union is an organized association of workers that formed to protect their rights and interest. The historical significance correlates with freedom because robber barons were taking all of the power. When labor unions were put into place they were protect their right and getting freedom.
Nativism is the preference for native-born people and the desire to limit immigration. The historical significance correlates with the race, and ethnicity theme because the indigenous people were colonized and should a say in the land and be able to keep their culture.
Children's Bureau 1912 investigated and reported all matters pertaining to the welfare of children and child life among all classes. The historical significance correlates with freedom because they were working at young ages for an unreasonable amount of time class because many poor children worked.

Settlement House was a charitable service that provided services such as housing, daycare, education, and healthcare to improve the lives of the urban poor. The historical significance correlates with class because many people in the lower class didn't live so well and many got disease and didn't have a good education where this gave them that.
Jane Addams opened the first Settlement House known as the Hull House. The historical significance correlates with the them of gender because she proved that women are just as equal and helped many people with her settlement houses.
