Assuage

  • Definition: To make milder or less severe
  • Synonyms: Alleviate, Lessen
  • Antonyms: Intensify
  • Connotation: Positive, I feel that it helps a person who isn't in a good mood.
  • Sentence: To help my dog from being sad, I assuaged him by walking and playing with him.

Duplicity

  • Definition: The state or quality of having two elements or parts; being twofold or double.
  • Synonyms: Deception, Fraud
  • Antonyms: Directness, Honnesty
  • Connotations: Negative, I feel like a person who does this is a 2-face
  • Sentence: The new definition of duplicity should be changed to "A person who is 2-faced"

Garner

  • Definition: To gather or deposit in or as if in a granary or other storage place.
  • Synonyms: Deposit, Amass
  • Antonyms: Scatter, Squander
  • Connotation: Neutral, I think it depends what items are being stored
  • Sentence: The TLC show Hoarders reminds me of the definition and word itself.

Languish

  • Definition: The feeling of being weak or feeble
  • Synonyms: Decline, Ebb
  • Antonyms: Grow, Improve
  • Connotation: Negative, I feel that it is somebody experiencing something horrible in his/her life.
  • Sentence: A person becomes languished when going through a tough time in life. Whether it is not doing well in school or physically getting stronger.

Somber

  • Definition: Gloomy; Dark
  • Synonyms: Morose, Melonchaly
  • Antonyms: Excited, Flippant
  • Connotation: Negative, I feel that this is somebody who always feels sad/to himself or herself.
  • Sentence: Some goth people, talk somberly about how their life is.

Vilify

  • Definition: To speak ill of
  • Synonyms: Assail, berate
  • Antonyms: Defend, Approve
  • Connotation: Negative, Somebody who talks a lot S**T
  • Sentence: People who are bullies vilify those who are languish because they feel that they are better than everyone else

Paucity

  • Definition: Smallness of quanity
  • Synonyms: Dearth, Insufficent
  • Antonyms: Enough, Affluence
  • Connotation: Neutral, I feel that having to little of something is bad, but also having very little of something shows alot
  • Sentence: Paucity reminds me of the term "less is more."

Ludicrous

  • Definition: Causing laughter because of aburdity
  • Synonyms: Bizzare, Crazy
  • Antonyms: Normal, Reasonable
  • Connotation: Negative, I feel that someone who is ludicrous isn't acting his/herself
  • Sentence: I can't believe we have a rapper named Ludicrous.

Irascible

  • Definition: Eaasily provoked to anger
  • Synonyms: Testy, Touchy
  • Antonyms: Calm, Even-Tempered
  • Connotation: Negative, I feel that a person who is like this doesn't make friends easily
  • Sentence: I think at times, I can easily be Irascible

Cognizant

  • Definition: A person who is well-aware and concerned.
  • Synonyms: Apprehensive, Concious
  • Antonyms: Ignorant, Senseless
  • Connotation:Positive, I feel that person who is Cognizant, is always on the alert.
  • Sentence: Many Americans have diabetes without being cognizant of their of condition.

Diatribe

  • Definition: Sharply abusive denunciation, attack, or criticism
  • Synonyms: Screed, Abuse
  • Antonyms: Compliment, Praise
  • Connotation: Negative, I feel like this is one who is blunt and a Negative - Nancy
  • Sentence: Bullies are great examples of people acting Diatribe

Enmity

  • Definition: A feeling or condition of hostility
  • Synonyms: Dislike, Bad-Blood
  • Antonyms: Approval, Friendlyness
  • Connotation: Negative, I feel like this person just hates others for no reason
  • Sentence: Making peace with your enemies can be realistic and lasting; making peace by ignoring their enmity is foolish and sterile.

Loquacious

  • Definition: Talking too much
  • Synonyms: Verbose, Chatty
  • Antonyms: Silent, Quiet
  • Connotation: Negative, Somebody who talks too much always wants attention
  • Sentence: People who act loquacious always talk a big game, but doesn't have the guts to play it

Commiserate

  • Definition: To feel or express sorrow or sympathy
  • Synonyms: Condole, Feel - For
  • Antonyms: Be Indifferent, Turn Away
  • Connotation: Positive, I feel like a person who acts this way, cares about other people
  • Sentence :She did not exult in her rival's fall, but, on the contrary, commiserated her

Equivocal

  • Definition: More than one way of finding answers
  • Synonyms: Amibigous, Dubious
  • Antonyms: Clear, Certain
  • Connotation: Positive, I feel that a person who finds more than one way to a solution, is very clever
  • Sentence: Doctors are very Equivocal when it comes to treating wounds on a person.
