HOW DO ATTORNEYS USE MATH

  • Attorney use math in a not so obvious way.
  • Attorneys must be able to look at a case, take facts out
  • Of said case, and then be able to logically argue their point
  • In front of a judge and/or jury. Also, they must use a percent
  • To figure out how likely it is that someone committed a crime

PROBLEM

  • Three men are persons of interest in a crime, but you only
  • have enough evidence to convict the suspect. The crime was committed downtown.
  • Man 1- Lives downtown, works in the suburbs, single. Man 2- Lives in the suburbs
  • works downtown, married. Man 3- Works in the suburbs, lives in the suburbs, married
  • The crime was committed at 2 am. Who would you try to convict?

SOLUTION

  • The solution to this problem is simple.
  • You would try to convict man one, because the crime
  • was committed downtown, at 2 in the morning. Therefore
  • All three men were at home sleeping (or committing a crime)
  • Man one lives downtown on his own, so he's the most likely suspect
