The Problems

  • America has stripped the rights of black people since Jamestown in 1619.
  • When slavery was "abolished" in 1865, it still continued under other names.
  • Mass incarceration and the criminalization of black men
  • Unequal housing and educational rights
  • Segregated communities
  • Unwillingness in most white people to learn about racism

Negative Effects

  • Black men living in fear of being shot by a policeman
  • A divided country
  • People of color experiencing more trauma and stress
  • Innocent lives being taken
  • White people are not listening to learn, they're listing to respond

Negative Effects

  • A society with no empathy
  • 1 in 3 African American men will experience prison.
  • After jail, no-one wants to hire them, hard to find housing, makes it more likely they will end up back in jail.
  • After jail you cannot vote.
African Americans constitute nearly 1 million of the 2.3 million people incarcerated. 6 times the rate of whites. 1 in 3 African American men will experience prison. When they get out of jail, no-one wants to hire them, its hard to find housing, and makes it more likely that they will end up back in jail. Can't vote, might affect someones ability to receive federal benefits.

Solutions

  • White people have to start to listen and care.
  • Restructuring of the police department.
  • Changing policies.
  • Restructuing the prison system.
  • Strengthening low income community schools.
  • Teaching cause and effect of white privilege in schools.
