I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.
My brothers and sisters, some from Chloe’s household have informed me that there are quarrels among you.
What I mean is this: One of you says, “I follow Paul”; another, “I follow Apollos”; another, “I follow Cephas”; still another, “I follow Christ.”
Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you?
Were you baptized in the name of Paul?
- 1 Corinthians 1:10-13

Vain Conceit

Haman went out that day happy and in high spirits. But when he saw Mordecai at the king’s gate and observed that he neither rose nor showed fear in his presence, he was filled with rage against Mordecai. Nevertheless, Haman restrained himself and went home. Calling together his friends and Zeresh, his wife, Haman boasted to them about his vast wealth, his many sons, and all the ways the king had honored him and how he had elevated him above the other nobles and officials. “And that’s not all,” Haman added. “I’m the only person Queen Esther invited to accompany the king to the banquet she gave. And she has invited me along with the king tomorrow. But all this gives me no satisfaction as long as I see that Jew Mordecai sitting at the king’s gate.” His wife Zeresh and all his friends said to him, “Have a pole set up, reaching to a height of fifty cubits, and ask the king in the morning to have Mordecai impaled on it. Then go with the king to the banquet and enjoy yourself.” This suggestion delighted Haman, and he had the pole set up. - Esther 5:9-14

"Pride is the greatest sin because it is the living heart of all sins. Every sin says to God, "My will be done"."

"Pride is essentially competitive."

"The deepest reason God hates pride, the reason pride is so hellish, is that it keeps us from knowing God, our supreme joy. Pride looks down, and no one can see God but by looking up." (Peter Kreeft: Back to Virtue, P. 98, 102)

"Pride is the fundamental violation and disordering of love because it puts the love of the human self before the love of God."
(Os Guinness: Steering Through Chaos, P. 37).

The 3 things that Christ did for us as the model for unity

Humility

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage.
- Philippians 2:5-6

Selflessness

Rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

Submission

And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!
- Philippians 2:8
