History of the Oreo It started as a biscuit; with the National Biscuit Company, it was made in Nibisco in 1912, in Manhattan. Today the same street it began on is known as 'Oreo Way'. In 1921 it was renamed as the 'Oreo Sandwich', and the modern day Oreo design was made in 1952, by William A. Turnier.
