COMANCHE AND ALABAMA COUSHATTA

HISTORY

  • The Comanches started in 800-1500 AD.
  • They used to be with the eastern Shoshone but left becuase of disagrement.
  • They were war like people because their love of killing there enemy
  • They were brutal to their captive until death or released.

SETTLEMENTS

  • They settled in many places.
  • They settled in Texas, Oklahoma, Kanas,
  • Colorado , and New Mexico.

APPERANCE

  • The comanches had pretty big noses, braided or loose hair,
  • Small eyebrows, small eyes, and were muscular.

CLOTHING

  • Men had tight leggings, breechclauts, they wore no
  • shirts unless if they were elders, and wore long twisted fringes.
  • Women wore long fringes, dresses with 3 different skins, ponchos,
  • And mocasing.

FOOD

  • The comanche ate corn, beans, squash,
  • Berries, prairie turips, antelope, deer,
  • Moose, buffalo, rabbit, elk, river fish,
  • Sage and wild onions.

TOOLS

  • They used bow and arrows, shields, lance,
  • Hunting knives, rope, fly swatter, spears, and sling shot.

CEREMONIES

  • Had quiet of few ceremonies like the bever ceremonies
  • It was used to heal a sick person. Another was a peeson would
  • Thirst and fast for several days so they can seek a powerful spirit.
  • Another was warriors would sunned their shield and sticked their sword
  • In the ground to increase super natural protection.

CUSTOMS

  • They had quiet a bit of customs. One was counting coup
  • , they would take an oppentents and used it against them.
  • They believed in a lot of spirits and thoight they would protect them.
  • There names were very important and ussally meant magical or mystical.

ALABAMA COUSHATTA

HISTORY

  • The Alabama coushatta started in 800-1500 A.D in Mississippi.
  • In 1763 they developed the deerskin economy.
  • Their tribe still exists today.

SETTLEMENTS

  • They lived in the region of the piney woods.
  • Example: Nacogdoches, Lufkin, and Livingston

CLOTHING

  • Men had shirts, pants, leggings, and moccasins.
  • Women had bright blouses, long skirts, and moccasins.

APPERANCES

  • They had their faces painted.
  • Big noses and small eyes.
  • They were muscular and had short or braided hair.

FOOD

  • They ate corn, beans, sunflowers, deer,
  • turkey, and river fish.

TOOLS

  • They used bow ans arrow, spears, clubs,
  • and slingshot.

CEREIMONIES

  • The stomp dance, a form of dance to celebrate their culture.
  • Here are few different dances they did: Mens chicken dance,
  • Mens grass dance, and Mens southern straight.

CUSTOMS

  • They would make baskets and trade with other or use.
  • Powwow is a comination of different dance styles and traditions.
  • Green corn ceremony is a ceremonial fire and they danced arounded
  • it to give thanks to the creater.
