PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The Scarlet Letter
Nathaniel Hawthorne
Jill Verbeck

Essential Question
How does the sinful reputation passed on from parent to child affect the child's life, and how do they escape it and become known for their own decisions/choices in life?

Children learn mistakes and sin from their parents. Growing up in a home of fighting leads to bad character traits later on. The article I found says, " When parents do something that is wrong, their children are very likely to justify the same action."

The Devil makes us think our reputation and sin defines who we are. He tricks us and tells us lies about ourself. We can leave the darkness and join God in the light, leaving the path our parents are taking. Everyone is their own person and if they choose Jesus instead of the Devil and sin, he can change you from the inside out.

In my article it talked about children of troubled parents turning to Christ. They were completely changed and God gave them a purpose. Their parents still wallowed in their sin and lived their hopeless lives. Everyone has an opportunity to be made new in Jesus.

In The Scarlet Letter, Pearl is called the product of sin. This sin was the adulteress affair of Hester. Pearl was sin as a demon, but she deserves to have a chance to have her own reputation, not just what was passed down from her mother.
