UNUSUAL FRUITS CONT.

  • Durian

STAR FRUIT

  • When fruit is cut open slices form a star, hence the name "star fruit".
  • Star fruit also known as carambola is a juicy tropical fruit that is grown throughout Southeast Asia.
  • Yellow or amber color when ripe.
  • Star fruit contains vitamin C, and many carbs.
  • If person with unhealthy kidney eats star fruit, can permanently damage kidneys.

RAMBUTAN

  • The rambutan was originally grown in Malaysia, but is now grown throughout Southeast Asia.
  • Rambutan is red on outside with green fuzz or "hair" on skin.
  • The rambutan is used to keep arteries clean and help blood flow.

CUCAMELONS

  • Cucamelons are a vine that grow with a grape size melon on the end.
  • Look like small watermelon, but more sour.
  • Originally grown in china, but now in the southeast.
  • Tastes like cucumber and lim.

DRAGON FRUIT

  • The dragon fruit is a fruit with sparkling flowers and odd shape.
  • Usually dark red-yellow color, and has sweet taste.
  • Contains lots of vitamin C, fiber and fat.
  • Originally grown in Central America.

BUDDHAS HAND

  • When ripe, fruit opens up to appear like a hand.
  • Yellow color when ripe.
  • Given as a offering to Buddha is some countries.
  • Grows best in temperate conditions such as California.
