PRESENTATION OUTLINE

COMPOSITION

  • May be a huge ocean under the ice
  • Made up of ice and water
  • Hot dense fluid

ATMOSTPHERE

  • 9 rings
  • Made up of hydrogyn
  • & helium & Methane
  • Extremely cold

MOONS

  • 27 moons
  • 5 major moons named-
  • Titania
  • Oberon, Ariel
  • Miranda, and Umbriel

ROTATION

  • Uranus makes a full rotation in 17.9 hours
  • Its day is 17.9 hours, shorter days then earth

REVOLUTION

  • Every 84 earth years
  • 30,687 earth days

DISTANCE FROM THE SUN

  • Uranus is 1,782 million miles, or 2,869 million kilometers from the sun

DIAMETER

THE DIAMETER OF URANUS IS 29,297 MILES, OR 47,150 KILOMETERS

TEMPATURE EXTREMES

  • The troposphere has tempatures of -370 degrees ferenhight to -243 degrees ferenhight
  • The outer layer can get as hot as 1,070 degrees ferenhight

Apperence

Light blue & dark blue, with a tint of green, bright blue and dark blue spot in the dark blue area- the light blue spot is called Ariel, the dark blue spot is called Ariels shadow.

OTHER FACTS

  • Uranus cannot be seen without a telescope
  • The seventh planet from the Sun, it was not known in ancient times, unlike the planets from Mercury to Saturn.
  • Uranus was first seen by William Herschel in 1781 during a survey of the sky using a telescope. In 1782 George III appointed Herschel as Astronomer Royal.
  • Herschel also discovered 2 of Uranus’ moons with a larger telescope.
  • Uranus was the ancient Greek God of the heavens whose sons were the Giants and Titans.

Uranus is the smallest of the four “giants”, but is still several times larger than the Earth. It has a diameter of 29297 miles, or 47, 150 kilometres, compared to the Earth’s diameter of just under 8000 miles, or 12,760 kilometres.

Uranus also has rings, though they don't stretch out as far as the rings of Saturn. The rings of Uranus are made up of black dust particles and large rocks.

It would take you many years to fly a rocket to Uranus. When you arrived you would weigh less because Uranus' gravity is not as strong as the Earth's. If you weigh 70 pounds (32 kg) on Earth, you would weigh 62 pounds (28 kg) on Uranus.

In astronomy mythology, Uranus was the lord of the skies and husband of Earth. He was also the king of the gods until he was overthrown by his son Saturn.

Uranus has 27 moons. Five of these moons are large and the rest are smaller. The largest moon is Titania, followed by Oberon, Umbriel, Ariel and Miranda. Some of the smaller moons are named: Belinda, Bianca, Caliban, Cordelia, Cressida, Desdemona, Juliet, Ophelia, Portia, Puck, and Rosalind.
