This was the first battle of the civil war happened when the Confederates bombarded the south at Fort Sumter
The North won this battle
North Quote- "We have started strong and will win this war.
South Quote-"We will regain this territory and win this war.

Inconclusive victory on either side
North "Even on our own land, we did not succeed in battle."
South " The bloodiest battle just took place, but there was no victory."

BATTLE AT GETTYSBURG
This battle is considered the most important engagement of the Civil War.
The North won this battle the South to retreat their battered army toward Virginia.
The South faced many casualties in this battle which hendered their success in later battles
South Quote-"We will not be torn down by this loss in battle we will build from it and win the next battle."
North Quote-"we have won yet another battle but we have lost many men and must prepare for the next battle."

Confederate "Our army has been trapped and split in half. Is there hope for us now?

EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION
This was written by Abraham Lincoln when he realized that abolition had become a sound military strategy
This was intended to free slaves and had this quote "all slaves in the rebellious states shall be then,thenceforward, and forever free."
Even though his was intended to free slaves it did not free not one single slave.
Quote-"We have finally been freed and we are finally done working for the cruel slaveowners thanks to Abraham Lincoln

Robert E. Lee's army surrender
Union victory
Lee - "I had no choice. My men were in no position for battle"
Ulysses - "Vicksburg AND a surrender?! What luck! Our future is bright!"

PRESIDENTS OF THE CIVIL WAR
The Unions President was Abraham Lincoln.
The Confederates President was Jefferson Davis.
Lincoln's quote-"It is easy to see that, under the sharp discipline of Civil War, the nation is beginning a new life."
Davis's quote-"Neither current events nor history show that the majority rule, or ever did rule."

Union - Robert Anderson
Confederate - Edmund Kirby Smith
Anderson "The confederates will surrender once and for all to the union!"
Smith "My men and I will put an end to this awful and bloody war!"

OTHER MEN IN THE CIVIL WAR
Other important men in the Civil War were Thomas Stonewall Jackson, Philip Bazaar, and William Carney.
Thomas Stonewall Jackson Quote-"I was one of the most important South Generals in the war."
Philip Bazaar Quote-"I distinguished myself in the Battle for Fort Fisher and received a high military decoration for it."
William Carney Quote-"I was a soldier during the Civil War and was awarded the Medal Of Honor for it."

President Lincoln was shot and killed by John Wilkes Booth, an American actor
Northerner "Lincoln was a friend. A leader. He fought to preserve us and the South will pay."
Southerner"He was so against our views and beliefs. There is hope now that he's gone."
