U.S MARSHALS

HISTORY

  • The U.S Marshals were first founded in 1786 by George Washington when he signed the Judiciary Act.
  • There was originally only 13 members acting as the enforcing arm of the federal courts.
  • The first Marshal to be killed in the line of duty was Robert Forsyth in 1794

HISTORY

  • Marshals also acted as the only form of justice in the many frontier towns across America.
  • They tracked down and captured some of the worst outlaws in history such as Billy the Kid, Butch Cassidy, and Jesse James.

MODERN STATIS

  • Marshals are now one of America's most versatile law enforcement agencies.
  • They conduct anti terrorism operations.
  • Track down and capture criminals on the top 15 most wanted list.

MARSHAL SERVICE

  • Marshals track down and capture some of America's worst criminals.
  • Air Marshals travel on planes across the country to prevent terrorist plots.

DUTIES

  • Prisoner transport.
  • Fugitive apprehension.
  • Witness protection.
  • Drug seizures
  • Raids.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be between 21 and 37 years old
  • Have at least 6 years of prior law enforcement experience or military service.
  • Have a clean record.
  • Have a Bachelors degree
  • A 3.0 GPA in chosen major
  • Pass the selection process

CAREER ADVANCEMENT

  • After a marshal has served 3 or more years they can become a specialist in a chosen area.
  • Such as weapons specialist, academy instructor, or SWAT
  • After 5 to 7 years of service a Marshal can become a supervisor.
  • They are in charge of certain districts.
  • Must retire by age 57

EARNINGS AND BENEFITS

  • $25,000 to $45,000 annually.
  • Full medical coverage.
  • Government discounts.
  • Government agent status.

MY OPINION

  • To me the Marshals are the greatest government agency in the world.
  • They have such an amazing history.
  • They are as old as America itself.
  • Not many people can become marshals.
  • It would be an honor to wear their 5 point badge.
