  • In 1830, the Mexican gvmnt. banned American immigration.
  • Immigration didn't stop even after they banned it.
  • About 35,000 Americans immigrated by 1836.

  • In 1833, the Mexican gvmnt. rejected the TX Constitution
  • The texans were not happy with Mexican rule, so...
  • They made a list of changes they wanted made.

  • In 1835, the first shots of the revolution were fired.
  • Mexican soldiers were sent to Gonzalez, TX
  • They were sent there to take a cannon to scare away attackers.

  • In 1836, texans declared independence from Mexico
  • They wrote a Declaration of Independence from Mexico.

SLIDE 5

  • In 1836, the texans lost the battle of the Alamo.
  • Mexicans killed all 189 Mexicans to defend the Alamo.

  • In 1836 the treaties of Velasco were signed
  • This gave Texas their independence.
  • The republic of TX signed the treaties and ended the revolution.

  • In 1836, Sam Houston was named President of Texas
  • This was after Texas won independence from Mexico.

  • In 1845, Texas became part of the U.S
  • The U.S annexed TX, making it the 28th state.

  • In 1846, the Mexican-American War began.
  • During the war, Mexico claimed 50,000 acres of land.

  • In 1848, the Treaty of Guadelupe Hidalgo ended the M-A war.
  • Mexico realized TX was free from Mexico after the were defeated in the war.
