THE MISSION STATEMENT
The Student Union of The University of Texas- Pan American is both a building and a concept. As a building, the Union Offers a gathering place for students, faculty, staff, and guests of the University. It houses services and programs. As a concept, the Student Union is a celebration of the spirit of University life. It celebrates community, diversity, scholarship, excellence and growth. The Student Union is a vital component of the University that enriches the academic programs of the institution.
THE HISTORY OF UTPA
The University of Texas-Pan American has a rich tradition of educational service and community engagement. In the past eight decades it has undergone six name changes, all reflecting growth, achievement and success.

THE UTPA OFFERS
The Department of Social Work offers programs leading to the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree and the Masters of Science in Social Work (MSSW) degree. Both programs are accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Field Education is an important component of each program. The BSW Program prepares students for generalist social work practice. Building on the generalist foundation, the MSSW program focuses on two concentrations:
-Direct Practice with Latino Individuals, Families, and Groups.

THE ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS
As a student participating in this program during your freshmen year, you will be provided support services to improve your academic skills, research careers, attend educational/cultural field trips and to participate in academic advising, career planning and group counseling sessions.
You will also have the opportunity to become acquainted with other CAMP students from Hidalgo, Cameron, Starr, and Willacy counties.
