PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Vaginal Ring

Birth Control // Ryan & James

What is it?

  • The vaginal ring is a flexible and small ring that the woman puts inside of her vagina once a month.
  • This helps decrease the rate in which the woman will get pregnant. It stays in for the first three months and taken out for the last week.
  • The vaginal ring also requires a prescription.

Advantages of the Vaginal Ring

  • It’s convenient; it’s used once a month.
  • Special fitting is not required, unlike other birth control methods such as the male condom.

Advantages of the Vaginal Ring

  • It’s reversible; you can take out the ring whenever you want, and ovulation will return within a few days. (Ovulation is when an egg(mature egg) is released from the ovary)
  • Minimal side effects
  • It’s comfortable

Disadvantages of the Vaginal Ring

  • Dizziness
  • Headaches
  • Fatigue
  • Tenderness
  • Change of appetite
  • The biggest disadvantage would be that the vaginal ring does not protect you from STI’s.

Where can you find the Vaginal Ring?

  • You can find the Vaginal Ring at pharmacies such as Shopper's Drugmart, however, it requires a doctor's perscription.

How much does a Vaginal Ring cost?

  • Typically, the Vaginal Ring costs roughly between 30$-35$.

How effective is this method?

  • This method is extremely effective.
  • It's failure rate is 91% - 99.7%

What to do if problems arise

  • If a problem arises, you should contact your healthcare provider or the place that you got the prescription immediately so you can stop the problem before something worse happens.
