THE DISASTER

• The earthquake occurred on May 22,1960 at 15.11 hours.
• During about 10 minutes.
• The earthquake cause a lot of damage, killing 1,655 people.

THE TSUNAMI

• After the earthquake a big wave impact the coast of Chile with a magnitude of 8.6, an epicenter of 39.5 S,74.5 W, and a focal depth of 33 km.
• Destroying and flooding streets, leaving 2 million people without homes.

PACIFIC COUNTRIES

• 15 hours after the earthquake, waves up to ten meters reached Hawaii killing 61 people. Something similar occurred in Honshu, Japan, where 185 people were killed or disappeared.

Also in Philippines, with 32 deaths.
