- British army moved to Staten Island, American forces were still at Middlebrook.
- The British fleet was under Lord Howe, sailed from New York with entire British
- Army in command of his brother sir William Howe.

- Creek, 90 miles north of Philadelphia.

- The enemy appeared in Chesapeake Bay. On August 23
- Washingtons army marched through Philadelphia then to Wilmington.
- The enemy marched upon the 95th at the elk river, 54 miles south
- Of Philadelphia.

- Battle of Germantown, was the retreat of Americans to White Marsh, about six
- Miles north of Chestnut Hill.
- Lord Howes ships invaded Fort Mifflin and Fort Mercer below the city.
- An incident of this movement was the Battle of Red Bank, N.J., in which
- Count Donop, the Hessian commander, was wounded.

- After an exhausting march from White Marsh, Washingtons troops
- Arrived upon the hills at Valley Forge. Four days later nearly 3,000 men
- Of this force were sick or too unable to do their duty.

- He was born in 1775
- Born in Germantown ,Virginia
- He spent the winter of 177-1778 at valley forge.
- He resigned from the military in 1781
- He studied law and began practicing.
