PRESENTATION OUTLINE

ORGANELLE PROJECT

CYTOPLASM

Portion of the cell outside the nucleus

CELL MEMBRANE

Thin flexible barrier that surrounds cells and controls what goes in and out of the cell.

RIBOSOME

RNA and protein found throughout the cell; site of protein synthesis

NUCLEUS

Contains almost all the cell’s DNA and coded instructions for making proteins and molecules

MITOCHONDRIA

Converts chemical energy stored in food into compounds the cell can use; powerhouse of the cell

NUCLEOLUS

Small region in the nucleus where assembly of ribosomes begins

CELL WALL

Support layer around the membrane that protects the cell

SMOOTH ER

Synthesizes membrane lipids and detoxifies drugs; does not have ribosomes

ROUGH ER

Synthesizes proteins; has ribosomes

GOLGI APPARATUS

Modifies, sorts, and packages proteins for storage or release from the cell

LYSOSOMES

Breakdown lipids, carbs, and proteins; removes junk

VESICLES

Stores and moves materials between cell organelles, as well as to and from the cell surface.

CENTRAL VACUOLE

Stores materials like water, salts, proteins, and carbohydrates.

CHLOROPLAST

Takes energy from sunlight and converts it into food.

FLAGELLA

Helps to guide and move the cell.

CYTOSKELETON

Supports and gives shape to the cell; also helps with movement
