Verbs expressing a preference are followed by -ing
Like, love, adore, enjoy, dislike, hate, detest, can’t stand, prefer, don’t mind and also start, stop, begin, finish, or suggest, admit, deny, avoid, consider, practiced, risk, involve, imagine;
Verbs and prepositions are followed by -ing
Succeed in, think of, think about, look forward to, insist on, apologize for, be interested in, be good at, be bad at

Common verbs followed by infinitive include:
Afford, agreed, choose, decide, expect, help, hope, learn, manage, mean, need, promise, refuse, want
Some take an object before the infinitive: allow, ask, encourage, expect, help, invite, tell, want;
Also would like, would love, would prefer, would hate are followed by an infinitive
