About Eric
Eric K. Shinseki was born in Lihue,Kauai on November 28, 1942. Eric a retired United States Army four-star general who has served as the seventh United States Secretary of Veterans Affairs since 2009.

There are a 144 departments that help the veterans. Some examples are the American Red Cross, and the army and navy union .

The Department of Veteran Affairs has a budget of 2.5 Billion Dollars.

The History in the Department of Veterans Affairs is Congress established a new system of veterans benefits when the United States entered World War I in 1917. Included were programs for disability compensation, insurance for service persons and veterans, and vocational rehabilitation for the disabled. By the 1920s, the various benefits were administered by three different Federal agencies: the Veterans Bureau, the Bureau of Pensions of the Interior Department, and the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers.
