VETERINARIAN

SPECIFIC TASKS:

  • A vets job is to diagnose, prevent, and treat a variety of animal illnesses and diseases

JOB ENVIRONMENT:

  • Works in private clinics or animal hospitals
  • Vets that treat big animals work outside
  • Vets that work with smaller animals work inside

WORKING HOURS/CONDITIONS:

  • Vets have to work long hours
  • One third of full time spending 50 or more hours on the job
  • There could also be unexpected calls during day, afternoon, night, and middle of the night
  • Need a bachelors degree

SALARY:

  • Normally it would be $3,900 to exp. $12,000 a month
  • $101,040 a year
  • Depends on what college you go to and what location you end up going to

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • Have to have a doctorate of veterinary medicine (DUM) degree is required
  • Must have 3 years of pre-vet
  • Courses are physics, chemistry, biology, physiology, genetics, and statistics

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Have to like animals
  • Get along with all different kinds of animals
  • Have patients & take things seriously when it comes to surgery/procedure

DISADVANTAGES:

  • People put their hope and trust into you with their animals
  • If their animal/animals die you have to deal with them & you might not know how they're going to react
  • You can get called in the middle of the night

ADVANTAGES:

  • If you have your own animals and they get sick or hurt you will know how to fix/deal with them
  • You will know how to make animals feel better professionally and properly
