VICENTE MARTÍNEZ YBOR

Ybor was born in Valencia, Spain 1818. Ybor immigrated a lot. When he started to settle in Cuba he moved to Key West because of the Cuban Revolution.

Ybor bought 40 acres of land northeast of Tampa. His cigar factory was the largest in the world and made lots of money. His factory workers came from all around the world to work there.

The reason he picked Tampa was because of its warm and humid climate reminded him of Cuba and it was good for the tobacco. Also there was a port and a railroad there to transfer his cigars.

Ybor made millions of cigars. He started to make them in Key West and then he made them in Tampa. For his workers he made Ybor City, so his workers would not have to travel far to get to work.

• His parents names were Gavino Gutierrez and Ignacio Haya.
• His wife's name was Pamia Leares and Mercedes de las Revillas.
• He learned about tobacco and started to make them for money.(He wasn't that rich.)
