In 1606, a couple of rich London businessmen asked King James I for a charter to establish a colony in the New World. They formed the Virginia Company and left to establish a permanent English settlement in the Americas.
Most of the people that settled in the Virginia Colony were British. This occurred because John Smith and his crew were the people who founded Jamestown and wanted a colony.
The Virginia Colony's landscape included coastal plains, valleys, and mountains. The warmer climate and the land meant that it was possible to grow crops throughout the entire year.
