Introduction
This is Virginia.
Virginia was the first colony.
It is very beautiful and has great weather.
You can always get food because of the great weather.

FOUNDER

John Smith founded the colony of Jamestown, Virginia in 1607

  • He was an English soldier, explorer, colony governor, admiral of New England, and author
  • He lived from 1580 - 1631
  • His parents were named George Smith and Alice Smith
  • He was from England
  • He died in London

RELIGION
In Virginia, they believed in many religions. They usually went to church and worshiped Jesus.

Different Religions

  • The Anglicans believed the catholic faith was reveled in the holy scripture
  • The Baptists believed that faith is a matter between freedom and God

MONEY AND WORK
If you needed money, you would usually sell tobacco, harvest tobacco, become a bartender or a blacksmith or other jobs.

GEOGRAPHY
The geography of Virginia is mountains, valleys, and coastal plains. It also has lots of fields.

WE ARE UNIQUE
Our colony was named after Queen Elizabeth I who was also called the Virgin Queen. Virginia was the first colony. It was made a royal colony in 1624. It became a state on June 25th, 1788.

YOU SHOULD COME BECAUSE...
There are low taxes and it is in the Southern colonies. The temperature is almost always warmer and there is plenty of rain. They can grow crops all year round! Their crops are: tobacco, cotton, livestock, fruit, and grain. Slavery was finished in 1865 at the end of the Civil War.

PRESIDENTS
There were four presidents out of the first five that lived in Virginia. They are:
1. George Washington 1789-1797
2. Thomas Jefferson 1801-1809
3. James Madison 1809-1817
4. James Monroe 1817-1825
