QUESTIONS

  • Questions Which liquid will have the highest viscosity? Will adding water change the viscosity of the liquid? Would adding sugar make the liquids have a higher viscosity?

MATERIALS

  • 200ml of honey, water, milk, juice and soft drink. Five marbles Measuring cup Five cups Stopwatch

RESEARCH

  • Research When pouring your liquids, you might have noticed that some of them were "thicker" or harder to pour. These are the more viscous liquids. You can also think about what these liquids are like when you use them everyday. For example, what would happen if you poured water on pancakes? Would it flow slowly like syrup or spread out very quicklyl?

RESEARCH 2

  • What about if you tried to pour and drink a glass of syrup? Taste (and healthfulness) aside, would that be harder than drinking a glass of water? Well from my hypothesis I stated that I think honey would be slower than water well that's because it is more viscous liquids have more resistance to flow making it more difficult for the marble to travel through.

HYPOTHESIS

  • I hypothesis that the marble will go fastest in this order. Water,Fizzy drink,Milk,Fruit juice and then honey due to the viscosity of all of these liquids.

METHOD

  • 1: Get your measuring cup and get 200ml of each liquid and pour it in your cups. 2: Fill each cup with a liquid and number them. 3:Drop a marble in the first cup and time it with a stopwatch (stop the watch when the marble hits the bottom). 4:Observe how long each marble takes.

SUMMARY

  • Summary: In my experiment I will test the viscosity of liquid by applying a force(marble) to the liquid. I will observe the time it takes for the marble to reach the bottom of the liquid(which is in a cup measured to two hundred ml)

CONDUCT THE EXPERIMENT.

  • This was how fast the marble went through the liquids.

OBSERVATIONS

  • I observed that the order of the quickest was Sprite with 25 milli seconds. Water for 28 milli seconds. Fruit juice for 28 milli seconds. Milk for 39 milli seconds and honey with 1min and 10sec. So it is obvious that honey is the most viscous liquid out of them all.

CONCLUSION

  • My hypothesis was disproven because I hypothesised that the liquids would go in this order:Water,Fizzy drink,Milk,Fruit juice and then honey but it went in this order: water,Sprite, fruit juice, milk and then honey. So the fruit juice and Sprite were swapped around.

CONCLUSION

  • The honey was more viscous than any of the liquids cause of the ingredients and consistency.
  • During my experiment I found that the marble tracked slower in the honey because it is very thick. The marble went the fastest with the water.
