Activity

  • "Mona Lisa" Google image search to demonstrate issues finding images online
  • Break students into groups & ask them to find an assigned work of art using 1. Google Images, 2. Artstor, 3. Museum Website, 4. Flickr

Activity

  • After using these resources to find images, ask groups to share observations with the class - quality, metadata, copyright, etc.
  • Use observations to foster a discussion on finding images online - algorithms & discoverability, zooming tools, 3D scans, etc.

  • Students will be able to articulate the ethical, legal, social, and economic issues surrounding the creation and use of images and visual media in order to access and use images ethically.
  • How: active, critical learning

Activity

  • Divide students into groups and give them case studies related to image appropriation
  • Case studies will be real scenarios
  • Students will present case study to class, noting insights and findings
