Visual Style

Non playable characters can play a very large role in the immersion created by a game. For example if the NPCs don't fit the genre or theme of a game they break a players immersion so great care has to go into making a NPC as appropriate for the type of game created

World design can be a key element is certain games such as open world games like skyrim and GTA as the consumer needs to feel immersed in the games environment so if the world design is not properly planned and constructed the game can loose its appeal

Gameplay

Most games choose a multiplayer or singleplayer approach from the get go as this allows them to focus on the gameplay for one perspective. Games that adopt both single and multiplayer aspects can have major problems such as one side is not worked on as much as the other. For example call of duty's multiplayer aspect is very crisp and well made but the single player campaign always lacks story and immersion as it is a less played side of the game but games like minecraft have balanced single and multiplayer aspects as it is the same game just with more people.

Goals and challenges are what drives the consumer to complete a game and explore its entirety. achievements are a good example of game tempting players to dedicate more time to complete tasks for reward
