EARLY LIFE

  • Was born April 22, 1870 in Simbirisk Russia
  • His parents were highly cultured, helped him learn
  • He was very studious when he was young, and was a heavy reader
  • He graduated first at his High School, with a love of Greek and Latin
  • His brother was executed for plotting assassination in 1887

MIDDLE LIFE

  • He was expelled from Kazan University, when he took place in a student demonstration
  • He went to his Grandfathers estate and read Marx and other similair literature
  • He devoted himself, and called himself a Marxist in 1889
  • In 1892 he finally got his college law degree, and moved to Samara
  • He then left Samara for St. Petersburg, where he met other Marxists

MIDDLE LIFE

  • In 1895 he was exiled to Siberia for 3 years
  • When he was released he started a Marxist newspaper in Munich
  • In 1903 he argued for a better government at a labor party meeting
  • During World War I he exiled himself to Europe
  • In 1917 he came back to Russia, with new ideas on Goverment

MIDDLE LIFE

  • He led the Soviets in the civil war against the Anti-Soviets 1917
  • In 1918 he barely survived an assassination, two bullets
  • After 3 years the Soviets won the war
  • The Russia he led was struck with poverty, death and famine
  • Riots broke out (and he issued the New Economic Policy(1921)

LATE LIFE

  • Leading up to his death he suffered 3 strokes
  • In 1923 he published his Testament
  • In his last writings he expressed remorse for his Dictator-like ruling
  • He was dissappointed with Joseph Stalins Communist Government
  • On January 21, 1924 he suffered a third stroke and died

  • Led the Bolshevik party
  • Wrote over 54 works of literature
  • Married a girl named Nazehda
  • Born as Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov
  • Changed name during political meetings
