AUTHORIZE (Ô' THA RĪZ)

  • (V) To allow someone to do something
  • Authorize:entitle as culprit:wrongdoer
  • The owner of the company authorized me to
  • to tour the factory, something most people aren't
  • allowed to do.

DAWDLE (DÔD' UL)

  • (V) to waste time when you should be doing something
  • Dawdle:delay as dissect:take apart
  • Don't sit there dawdling, doodling on your paper, when
  • you are supposed to be doing your homework!

  • Expend:disburse as fatality:casualty
  • When you are swimming, make sure not
  • to expend your energy by sprinting the first

  • Gullible:naive as illicit:illegal
  • My little brother is so gullible that I
  • could fool him into believing cats could fly.

  • The teacher gave all of the students a
  • memorandum for the upcoming test, so we could
  • put the note in our binder and remember there is a test.

  • Persevere:pursue as prevaricate:equivocate
  • Even though the girl had a hard time walking,
  • she persevered in her goal to become a runner.

QUASH (KWÄSH)

  • (V) To destroy, completely put down
  • Quash:suppress as relish:gusto
  • The little girl dreamed of becoming a famous
  • swimmer, but her dreams were quashed when she
  • was paralyzed in a car accident.

REMINISCE (REM U NIS')

  • (V) to reflect on past memories
  • Reminisce:remember as scour:scrub
  • When we visit my great-grandma's house, she
  • always starts to reminisce on her past days, and we
  • get to hear her stories about her as a child.

  • The actress made a testimonial to a company that
