PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Core: center of the earth that consist of iron & nickel
Sentence: the core of the earth is the hottest part of the earth.

MANTEL: IS BETWEEN THE CORE AND THE CRUST AND HOLDS THREE-QUARTERS OF EARTHS MASS
Sentence: the mantle lies between earths hottest layer and its thinnest layer.

Crust: the thin layer of rock at earths surface. The part we stand on.
Sentence: we walk on the crust of the earth everyday.

Continental drift: earth was once one continent and over time it divided into 7 continents.
Sentence: the slow movement of continents explained by plate tectonics

Hydrologic cycle: the continuos circulation of water between the atmospheres ex: the ocean, the earth,etc....
Sentence: the hydrologic cycle begins with the evaporation of water from the oceans surface.

Topography: combination of the surface shape and composition of the landforms and their distribution in a region
Sentence: The topography and the climate of Nevada have led to the formation of two kinds of lakes, the ephemeral and the perennial.

Tectonic plate: the two layers of the earths crust that move and whose interaction causes continental drift.
Sentence: these tectonic plates often extend for long distances with great regularity, but are frequently crossed by subsidiary anticlines, which themselves play a not unimportant part in the aggregation of the oil.

Seismograph: is the measurement of the size of the waves caused by an earthquake
Sentence: So the researchers scoured military data and seismograph readings for clues about what blue whales used to sound like.

Richter scale: figures out the relative strength of the earthquake
Sentence: 8 on the Richter scale hit the city of Kobe in January 1995.

Ring of fire: zone around the rim of the Pacific Ocean
Sentence: The Ring of Fire is a ring of volcanoes around the Pacific Ocean that result from subduction of oceanic plates beneath lighter continental plates.

Weathering: physical or chemical processes that changes the way a rock on or near the surface of the earth appears
Sentence:It is covered with a layer of thin, dry soil, through the slow weathering of the coral rocks.

Erosion: when wind, water, ice, or gravity move weathered materials
Sentence: Uplift permitted renewed erosion to wear away the soft belts, leaving mountain ridges of hard rock separated by parallel valleys.

Fault: earths crust fractured
Sentence: the glacier put a fault in the earth.

Drainage basin: an area drained by a major river
Sentence: the bravos river is the drainage basin for lake Waco.

Atmosphere: a layer of gasses surrounding the earth
Sentence: The atmosphere felt stiff and formal, as if this was not part of their routine.

Biosphere: where plants and animals live on the earth
Sentence: The sum of the organic life on the globe is termed by some geographers the biosphere, and it has.

Lithosphere: earths surface that is the solid rock portion
Sentence: The name is used in distinction from the atmosphere, the earth's envelope of air, the lithosphere.

Hydrosphere: the earths water element ex: oceans, Sears, lakes, rivers, etc...
Sentence: The question of the origin of the Atlantic basin, like that of the other great divisions of the hydrosphere, is still unsettled.

Loess: the yellowish-grey loosely compacted deposit of wind blown sediment of which extensive deposits occur
Sentence: The loess covers both the watersheds and the valleys.

Humus: the texture of the soil, the amount of organic material
Sentence: It is covered with a thick sheet of black earth, a kind of loess, that is mixed with humus.
