Ration-

Definition: a fixed amount of a commodity officially allowed to each person during a time of shortage, as in wartime.

Sentence: We each got our ration of the food.

War Bond-

Definition: War bonds are debt securities issued by a government to finance military operations and other expenditure in times of war. The bonds also remove money from circulation and thus also help to control inflation.

Sentence: During World War II the government and even radio and movie stars worked hard to convince people to buy war bonds.

Depression-

Definition: severe despondency and dejection, typically felt over a period of time and accompanied by feelings of hopelessness and inadequacy

Sentence: The U.S. Is going through a time of depression.

Victory Gardens-

Definitions: a vegetable garden, esp. a home garden, planted to increase food production during a war.

Sentence: we grew a victory garden during the war for food.

Stock Market-

Definition: a stock exchange.

Sentence: The stock market busted during the Great Depression.

Rural-

Definition: in, relating to, or characteristic of the countryside rather than the town.

Sentence: We live in a rural area in the country.

Boom-and-Bust-

Definition: A process of economic expansion and contraction that occurs repeatedly. The boom and bust cycle is a key characteristic of today's capitalist economies. During the boom the economy grows, jobs are plentiful and the market brings high returns to investors.

Sentence: The boom-and-bust cycle is a big factor in today's economy.

Definition: end a policy of racial segregation in.

Sentence: People were trying to desegregate schools.
