FRENCH REVOLUTION

23 VOCABULARY TERMS...

Human rights are basic rights given to all people.

Tranny is the unjust or unfair use of power by a monarchy to the people.

King Louis was a king who ruled France and Navarre from 1643 until his death. He was beheaded because how he treated his people.

Maria Antonia was a monarchy that ruled over France. All the peasants did not have bread so she did not care and said let them eat cake. The Revolutionary Tribunal of treason to the principles of the revolution, and executed by guillotine on 16 October 1793.

The 3 Estates are....
The first one is made up of commoners this is the big group. The second estate is made up of nobility made up of nobles. The third estate is made up of Clergy the highest social group.

THE 3 ESTATES

A Estate General is a assembly made up of representatives from the three estates.

Aristocracy are nobles in the second estate.

Bourgeoise is the third estate which is mad up of the middle class.

A National Assembly is a government consisting of delegates from the third estates.

Fall of the Bastilles is when the king banned the third estate from there meeting place.

The Tennis Court Oath was a pivotal event during the first days of the French Revolution. The Oath was a pledge signed by 576 of the 577 members from the Third Estate who were locked out of a meeting of the Estates-General on 20 June 1789.

Declaration of Rights of Man and of the citizen is when government got its power from the people not the king.

National Convention, French Convention Nationale , assembly that governed France during the most critical period of the French Revolution. The National Convention was elected to provide a new constitution for the country after the overthrow of the monarchy . The Convention numbered 749 people, including businessmen, tradesmen, and many professional men. Among its early acts were the formal abolition of the monarchy and the establishment of the republic.

Radicals where those most opposed to the king sat in the National Assembly at the far left, and those most committed to the king at the far right. It is therefore common to designate points on the political spectrum, reading from left to right, as radical, liberal, conservative, and reactionary.

Jacobin Club, a revolutionary political movement that had been the most famous political club of the French Revolution. The club was so called from the Dominican convent.

The Committee of Public Safety , created by the National Convention and then restructured , formed the de facto executive government in France during the Reign of Terror , a stage of the French Revolution.

Robepierre was a French lawyer and politician, and one of the best-known and most influential figures of the French Revolution.As a member of the Estates-General, the Constituent Assembly and the Jacobin Club.

The reign of terror was a time when a group of people chopped people heads off if there were disloyal. About 40,000 people were beheaded.

The Director was the government of France during the second-to-last stage of the French Revolution. The five directors exercised power, only one of whom, Lazare Carnot, has a reputation for leadership or political sagacity. It operated following the National Convention and preceding It was overthrown by Napole.

NAPOLEON BONEPARTE was declared the empire of France he tried to build up it's wealth title. He was a hero.

Coup d' etat a swift seizure of government .

Dictatorship is a form of government where political authority is monopolized by a single person or political entity, and exercised through various oppressive mechanisms. A dictatorship is a type of authoritarianism, in which politicians regulate nearly every aspect of the public and private behavior of normal people.
