VOLCANOES

BY: NICK ALEX JON

Volcanoes
Def: A rupture on the crust of a planetary-mass object, such as earth, that allows hot lava, volcanic ash, and gases to escape from a magma chamber below the surface.

Causes
*the crust is broken into 17 major tectonic plates that float on a hotter, softer layer in its mantel.
*volcanoes generally are found where tectonic plates are diverging or converging.
*magma rises through cracks or weaknesses in the earths crust, when this pressure is released, as a result of plate movement, magma explodes to the surface causing a volcanic eruption.

EFFECTS

(POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE)

Negative Effects 👇
Eruptions occurring close to human settements may spill and destory lives and property

People often have to be evacuated.

The ozone layer can be destroyed by ash.

Landscapes and natural sceneries can be destroyed

Ash and mud can mix with rain and melting snow forming lahars, which are mudflows…

POSITIVE EFFECTS

  • Different types of equpting volcano provide exordinary scenery that attract turists
  • Places close to volcanic activities tend to have higher potential for geothermal energy
  • Some ash and lava break down soils that are rich in nutrients and are good crops
