What actions lead to the voting act?

  • Men attacked African Americans using police dogs, water hoses, and nightsticks against the people who protested
  • State troopers used gas and clubs against protestors
  • African Americans were shot and killed
  • African Americans had nonviolent protest
  • African American had marches demanding the right to vote
  • President Johnson televised his speech on the tragedies and view points

WHAT FACTORS CONTRIBUTED TO MAKE THE ACT HAPPEN?

  • President Lyndon B. Johnson made it his highest topic
  • After Selma March it gained Americas attention on inequity especially the president
  • The nonviolent marches everyday
  • Student missing school to participate in groups or clubs to show their boycott
  • The protest showed how it made congress want to push to the idea that everyone should agree that everybody should have the right to vote no matter what race

WHAT RESISTANCE WAS TO OVERCOME? HOW?

  • The resistance was that African Americans were to not able to vote.
  • After many African American protested, did riots, saw the horrible seens, and congress getting reminded; congress finally voted and approved that no matter what race you are you have the right to vote and be equal in America.

WHAT ROLE DID EVERYDAY PEOPLE PLAY?

  • African Americans protested by marches, standing on the streets, making clubs, and students missing school.
  • Whites torchered African Americans
  • Killings and Kidnappings formed from the State troops
  • Police offeres released police dogs on African Americans for protesting
  • White man sprayed African Americans with water hoses for protesting
  • Congress was deciding what to do

WHAT STANDS OUT TO ME?

  • How American Americans had so much violence used in the, but still didn't fight back
  • After the voting act was approved many African Americans were nominated at local, state, and national leaves
