What were the effects on the indigenous people?
Before the British settlement, WA had more than 15% of the aboriginal population in Australia, but when the British came, many lost their lives or went into labour for the British. Seeing that the aboriginals had lived there for more than 40,000 years, the British should have leg them keep their basic rights but they did not. There were a lot of fights for land and rights against the two peoples. One of the aboriginal leaders in these fights was Jandamarra. The British captured aboriginals for stealing sheep and they sent them to gaol. The British were effecting them most when they captured the aboriginals for labour. They were restricting over 200 language chains and over 700 traditional societies.

WESTERN AUSTRALIA WAS THE FIRST COLONY IN AUSTRALIA TO BE A FREE SETTLEMENT

️What were the reasons for European settlement?⚡️
Western Australia was the first Australian colony not to be a penal colony or a prison settlement. The main economy was sheep and cattle farming so the main people who came to Australia were retired servicemen on half pay and professional men with their families looking for a new life. These people came between 1820-30. As the colony was free, the people had a free spirited nature. The first settlement at King George's Sound was established as a military outpost as the British were worried that the French would invade and take the west half of Australia for themselves. This way, the British felt more protected.
