CAUSES OF THE WAR

  • June 1812 - U.S. declared war
  • Four main reasons:
  • 1. Trade barriers - Americans resented interference from the British or the French not letting them trade
  • 2. Britain's stop-and-search tactic
  • - the British would search the American boats for British sailors who ran away

CAUSES CONTINUED

  • United States were insulted
  • 3. Britain and allies with First Nations
  • - Americans thought the British were supporting the First Nations
  • - accused the First Nations attacking the American for land
  • 4. American War Hawks - (push for war) want control over North America
