WATER QUESTIONS

WATER

  • Water is made of hydrogen and oxygen
  • Water gets into lakes by underground springs and rain water
  • If all the water is gone from the lakes we would get our water from wells
  • Only 2% of fresh water is in the world and 98% is salt water
  • Every living thing needs water
  • Without water we would die

WATER TOWER

  • A water tower can hold 50 swimming pools
  • The water can go up and down the pipes by gravity and a pump
  • Divers go into the water tower to fix and clean it
  • The water tower knows when to pump water to our houses because when the pump can't keep up with the demand the water tower helps it

CLEAN WATER

  • Tap water is clean water
  • A person can last longer without food than water
  • Not all living things need clean water. Fish don't need clean water they live in oceans

WATER TREATMENT PLANT

  • There's a big pipe in the lakes that collects water. It goes through the pipes to the water treatment plant. The water treatment plant cleans the water and goes into many tanks and when it's done it goes to our tap.

GROUND WATER

  • When it rains some of the water gets sucked into the ground just like percollation in the water cycle
  • The water in the ground is dirty
  • Mother Nature cleans the ground water when the water goes through all the dirt and sand in the ground

WATER CYCLE

  • Condensation when moisture forms on something and turns into water
  • Precipitation when water falls from the sky
  • Percollation when water gets sucked into the ground
  • Collection when water stays on top of the ground
  • Evaporation when water turns from a liquid to a gas

HOW THE WATER CYCLE WORKS

  • The sun heats up the water and turns into gas and turns into a cloud
  • Then the water goes into the clouds
  • Then it rains,hails,or snows
  • Water gets sucked into the ground
  • Some stays on top of the ground and then it starts all over

OAK RIDGES MORAINE/GROUND WATER

  • A moraine is when 2 lobes go together and leave sand and gravel
  • The rain water in the moraine is going into the area like a sponge and its feeding all rivers and streams in the local area
  • Water instead of flowing over the surface percolates through the pavement and into the ground just like it would in nature

ACTIVITIES USING WATER

  • Fishing
  • Tubing
  • Fly fishing
  • Boating
  • Swimming
  • Surfing
