Wave Energy

• The kinetic energy possessed by huge waves near the sea are trapped to generate electricity .

How does it work ?

• A structure is erected in the sea which has a piston attached to a turbine .
• The other end of the piston touches the ocean water.

How does it work ?

• When there is a rising wave, the level of water increases, pushing the piston upwards and vice - versa .
• The piston in turn connected to a turbine rotates to produce electricity.

advantages

• Wave energy is renewable and free of cost.
• It does not produce waste products .
• Reduces our reliability on non renewable sources of energy .

Disadvantages

• Suitable only where strong waves occur .
• Equipment should be strong enough to stand rough weather.
• Initial cost is ultra-expensive .
