HOW IT WORKS

  • Warm wax is applied to the area and removed in the opposite direction of the hair growth pulling hairs out of the root
  • Waxing hair removal uses a resin-based wax like product to remove the enitre hair follicle from the root.
  • The entire hair follicle should be removed from the root, if the waxing is done correctly.

PROS

  • Can be done fairly quickly depending on you and/or your esthetician
  • Results can last up to six weeks
  • Waxing can be done at home, salons and most spas
  • Temporarily removes hair at the root for an average for around 3 weeks of smooth skin (2-6 weeks depending on hair type)
  • If you keep waxing for many years, you may be able to prevent the hair from ever growing back. You hair may grow back finer as well, which can make it less noticeable betweeen treatments

CONS

  • Waxing needs some regrowth in order to be effective, as the wax needs at least 1/4 - inch of stubble to adhere to.
  • Treatments can be painful, as hair is being ripped out of the root (becomes tolerable over time)
  • Waxing can also lead to ingrown hairs
  • Skin can become irritated

WHAT CAN BE WAXED

  • Any area of the body
  • Areas most commonly waxed is eyebrows, upper lip, chim, underarms, forearms, upper arms, legs, toes, and of course bikini area
  • Best for legs, under arms, bikini area, and great for those with corse, darker hair

COST

  • Anywhere from $5-80 for salon waxing, depending on areas waxed and your salon of choice

TIPS

  • Don't drink alcohol before your wax (alcohol tightens up pores making it painful)
  • Stimulates such as coffee can also increase sensitivity
  • Find a salon that uses good quality wax (quality was means less painful experience)
  • Avoid direct sunlight, very hot showers, and cosmetics with fragrances for 24 hours after waxing
  • Do not exfoliate within 24 hours after waxing
